The Half Moon Hanoverian Stud

2008 HAS BEEN A SUPER YEAR……

2008 has been a super year for Half Moon Stud. At last the breeding programme that prompted the move to Dorset - to find more land and an indoor facility - is translating into serious competition results.

Waldfee, one of the 2 stud foundation mares, is now carrying her twelfth foal. Her first 7 have all qualified for one dressage related championship or another and the first 4 of those are now advanced horses including Half Moon Bardolino who was ‘best of Brits’ with Rebecca Drane in the Junior European Championships held in Portugal this July. Bardolino (Billy) is by Julie’s advanced stallion, Half Moon Bertoni, who qualified for the National Dressage Championships this year at both Intermediaire 1 level and Intermediaire 2 level. He was scheduled to make his international debut in August but due to a shoeing problem Julie still has to wait to sew on her Union Jack badge.

Half Moon Bertoni and Julie Half Moon Delphi (Maggie)

Half Moon Delphi (Maggie) is Walfee’s seventh foal. This year she won her elementary dressage regional championships for both the winter championships and the summer championships and was placed in both finals. She was also reserve champion in the FEI 6 year old championships held at Addington in August.

Half Moon Dynasty (Molly) Half Moon Dynasty (Molly)

Half Moon Dynasty (Molly) (2nd and 3rd pictures - black mare), a 4 year old, was backed in April this year. Rivera, Dynasty’s grandmother and the stud’s other foundation mare, was also the mother of Donna Carrera who was short listed for the Olympics for the Australian team this year. Dynasty went to her first competition at the Welsh Festival of Dressage where she duly won the Nuumed Potential International Young Dressage class which qualified her for the National Dressage Championships in September. Half Moon Frizzante, another 4 year old, also only backed in May this year went to his first competition in August - at Frys’ CDI and regional championship in August in Yorkshire - where he won a large class for the Nuumed Potential International Young Dressage championships so also qualifying for the National Championships. These 2 youngsters really did the team proud when Dynasty won the championship and Frizzante was through to the last line up finishing 10th.

Lennon (Half Moon Frizzante)

Half Moon Willroy has now gone to Bobby Hayler as her potential Junior team ride so we hope to see him and Bardolino flying the flag in 2009. Dynasty and Frizzante will contest the 5 year old young horse classes and Bertoni hopes to progress to Grand Prix............. Delphi is for sure heading for another outstanding year and then there will be more young ones emerging.......................

It is also rewarding to see others we have sold locally doing well and we were thrilled to be represented at the 2008 Shaftesbury and Gillingham show where Half Moon bred horses were champion and reserve champion in the sports horse breeding section, following the previous year when another Half Moon bred won the same championship. We hope and expect to see all these doing well in 2009.
